Meet Anisa Dehghani
At NIIOS | AER we value attentiveness, craftsmanship, and imagination.
While processing donor tissue, we encounter structures and signals that subtly deviate or stand out. Good research starts there: with the ability to truly observe, to notice the small details, and to formulate a research question based on what you see. Anisa Dehghani, now part of our R&D team for nearly a year, possesses exactly that kind of attentiveness. She knows how to translate her observations into innovative experiments, and her layered way of thinking aligns well with our scientific approach.
Anisa grew up in Iran and continued her academic path across several countries, including at Harvard in the United States, where she earned her PhD in neurobiological research. She brings not only scientific depth, but also a broad perspective shaped by international experience and cultural diversity. Her original and independent way of thinking is highly valuable in a research environment that encourages depth, openness, and academic freedom.
In a recent publication, in which she is first author, Anisa describes the presence of botulinum toxin receptors in the dura mater and along the inner cranial lining, a discovery that sheds new light on how botulinum toxin may affect migraine related pathways. Her expertise in confocal imaging, visualizing, and analyzing tissue layer by layer, is a strong match with emerging research directions at NIIOS. With this technical precision and her observant eye, Anisa helps us see beyond the visible and the familiar.
Beyond science, Anisa is also an accomplished writer. She has published two novels and a collection of short stories delving into existential human conditions, love, loneliness, and death. She has a passion for language and philosophy, and she’s an inspired author.
Thank you Anisa, for enriching our work!
